Update to the ICF Stakes Program (2/10/16):
Tuesday, February 9, 2016 (re-posted from the IHHA website)
As the landscape for racing in Illinois has changed greatly in 2016, so too will the ICF stakes program have a different look this year. Instead of various stake races with an elimination and final format, there will be a series for each of the 2 and 3 year old divisions consisting of four legs throughout the summer with finals and consolations to be held on September 10th (finals) and 11th (consolations). One staking payment will make a horse eligible for the entire series (four legs plus the final/consolation). For 3 year olds, a nomination payment of $1750.00 will be due on March 15th. For 2 year olds, a nomination payment of $1250.00 will be due on April 15th. Horses will earn a spot in the finals and consolations based upon a points system for the four series legs.
Each of the four series legs will have a starting fee of $200.00. There will be no starting fee for the finals and consolations. Each leg of the series will carry a purse of between $10,000 and $15,000 per division. Purses will vary within that range depending on the series. The four trotting finals are expected to go for $75,000.00 each, with the four pacing finals estimated at $100,000.00 each.
It is [IHHA’s] hope that Hawthorne Racetrack will finalize this agreed upon schedule and call it official. Nomination forms will be posted online as soon as possible.
UPDATE to Cardinal/Violet 2016 (2-5-16)
Thursday, February 4, 2016 (re-posted from the IHHA website):
The IHHA would like to remind everyone that stake payments to the Illinois Department of Agriculture for the three year Cardinal and Violet events are due on February 15th. While at this point Hawthorne has not released a stakes schedule for 2016, we want to make owners and trainers aware that these races have been scheduled for mid-July. The three year old Violet and Cardinal Finals for trotters will be held on Thursday, July 14th, with eliminations on July 7th. The three year old Violet Final for filly pacers will be held on Friday, July 15th, with eliminations on July 8th. The three year old Cardinal Final for colt and gelding pacers will be held on Saturday, July 16th, with eliminations on July 9th. The two year old Cardinal and Violet events will be held the final two weekends of the summer meet in September. Staking payments for the two year old events are not due until April 15th.
Staking payments for the Cardinal and Violent events are made to the Illinois Department of Agriculture. Nomination forms and payment information may be found here: https://www.agr.state.il.us/pdf/genericpaymentform.pdf "
The Illinois Department of Agriculture is accepting nomination payments for the Review, the Cardinal and Violet, the State Fairs and the County Fairs. For your use, please see the attached Stake Payment Schedule and Generic Payment Form. We will be sending the pre-printed nomination forms to eligible horse owners in the near future, but wanted to provide you with this information as soon as possible. Please note that as of 1/14/16, the Illinois state budget has not been finalized. Therefore, we do not know if there will be any additional funds for these races. When the budget is finalized, we will get the funding information to you as quickly as we can. In addition, we plan to publish a 2016 Racing & Stakes Guide but due to the current budget situation, it will be delayed this year.
Please continue to check the IDOA website or the IHHA website for updates. If you would like us to email updated information to you, please send your email address to Kelly.email@example.com. Should you have questions, please call the Bureau of County Fairs & Horse Racing at 217-782-4231. Thank you.
