Eagle Bridges Soy Candles
About two-and-one half years ago, Nancy Brackett of Griggsville and Dorothy
Chumley of Jacksonville decided they wanted to take a class on making soy
candles. So the pair traveled all the way to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to attend a
class taught by Michael Richards, the inventor of soy wax. They later opened
Eagle Bridges Soy Candles, which is based out of Brackett's basement. The
company is named Eagle Bridges because of the bridge of that name that separates
the pair.
It takes about three days to go through the entire candle-making process,
including pouring the wax, labeling, making sure there are no bumps or dents in
the candle, packing thema nd cataloging. The candles are scented all the way
through the wax, ensuring that the fragrance will be there throughout the entire
burning process. They can make about 20 dozen candles in those three days.
They make both eight ounce and four ounce candles and special candles such as
Easter eggs, cupcakes or aroma beads.
