Willett’s Winery and Cellar

Willett’s Winery and Cellar first opened their doors in 2005 by owner’s Dan and Chris Willett. The business is located at 105 East Market Street in Manito, IL. The building is a turn of the century store front which originally was a Harness Shop. Willett’s Winery features both grape and fruit wines. The grapes used to make Willett’s Vidal Blanc, Vignoles, Chardonel, Chambourcin are grown at their 8 acre Vineyard and Orchard near Spring Lake. Fruit wines include apple, blueberry, cranberry, cherry, red raspberry and black raspberry are sure to compliment many different dishes or simply enjoy by them self.

Another reason to make the trip to Willett’s Winery are the events the winery hosts. Dan and Chris scheduled 24 this past year ranging from local bands performing to Murder Mystery Dinner Theater. For a list of events you may check their website www.willettswinery.com there you will find an events tab on the home page.

Aside from the Vineyard and Winery Dan has planted over 1400 apple tree’s and markets fresh apples as well. The orchard contains varieties we all recognize Gala, Jonathan, Golden Delicious, Fuji and Red Delicious. He is also growing Cortland, Ruby Jon, Royal Empire and Honeycrisp. Apple’s from the orchard begin to ripen in and late summer and continue on through the fall. People can call ahead (309-968-7070) to see when fresh apples will be available.

FOODEX Japan 2008

Tokyo, Japan

ONLY 1 BOOTH LEFT!

The Illinois Department of Agriculture will be sponsoring an Illinois stand within the U.S. Pavilion at FOODEX Japan 2008. The show will be held March 11-14, 2008, at Nippon Convention Center (Makuhari Messe) in Tokyo. FOODEX is the largest food and beverage show in Asia, which serves Japan’s $600 billion food market. FOODEX is also attracting an increasingly regional visitor profile, thus providing an outstanding opportunity for promoting your products to other Asian markets. Japan is an $8 billion export market for U.S. food, beverage, and seafood products. With a food self-sufficiency rate of only 40%, Japan is one of the most import-dependent markets in the world. As a result, high Japanese demand for foreign food and beverage products remains a constant, regardless of overall market conditions. Asia-wide trends begin in Japan. For foreign companies, entry into the Japanese market is often the first step to expansion across the entire Asia Pacific region.
