Farmweld

Farmweld is a swine equipment innovation leader in the design of products that reduce waste and promote efficiency, pig comfort and labor savings. The Farmweld team has developed strong relationships with veterinarians, builders and distributors to better serve its customers.

Farmweld's story begins when Teutopolis, IL, native Frank Brummer started in business as a welder in 1979. During his early years in business, Brummer repaired many different brands of feeders for local farmers and had noticed plenty of design features he would change. At the encouragement of his farmer clients, Brummer began working on his ideas and was soon building "Farmweld" feeders.

One of the early inventions was the Flip-n-Feed® feeder, a unique tip-out feeder designed for deck-style nurseries. This feeder greatly reduced the labor associated with cleaning nurseries.

Brummer crisscrossed the Midwest in a pick-up truck loaded with feeder samples. He also took his products to state and national trade shows and attended industry gatherings to learn all he could about the changing swine industry. But perhaps most importantly, Brummer listened very carefully to what farmers had to say. He learned a lot about their operations, their goals and what they needed from equipment. He also studied the animals closely and read the latest in animal behavior research from major agricultural universities. By the early 1990s, Farmweld's product line had expanded to flooring, gating, gestation and farrowing equipment and drinkers. Farmweld was widely recognized as the leader in the design of equipment suitable for ten pound pigs up through market weight, opening the door for the now-standard wean-to-finish production facilities.

Farmweld provides the same personalized service to overseas customers as it provides to its domestic patrons. The company is competent at working with overseas brokers, handling transportation, freight, duty and currency issues, plus insurance. Farmweld designers and sales personnel are accustomed to providing facility drawings in metric and most product literature is available in Spanish. Farmweld has participated in international tradeshows and trade missions. In addition, Farmweld has hosted many international tours at its headquarters.

Farmweld is an Illinois agribusiness success story.

FOODEX Japan 2008

Tokyo, Japan

ONLY 1 BOOTH LEFT!

The Illinois Department of Agriculture will be sponsoring an Illinois stand within the U.S. Pavilion at FOODEX Japan 2008. The show will be held March 11-14, 2008, at Nippon Convention Center (Makuhari Messe) in Tokyo. FOODEX is the largest food and beverage show in Asia, which serves Japan’s $600 billion food market. FOODEX is also attracting an increasingly regional visitor profile, thus providing an outstanding opportunity for promoting your products to other Asian markets. Japan is an $8 billion export market for U.S. food, beverage, and seafood products. With a food self-sufficiency rate of only 40%, Japan is one of the most import-dependent markets in the world. As a result, high Japanese demand for foreign food and beverage products remains a constant, regardless of overall market conditions. Asia-wide trends begin in Japan. For foreign companies, entry into the Japanese market is often the first step to expansion across the entire Asia Pacific region.
