HARNESS RACING RECORDS SET ON DEMOCRAT DAY

SPRINGFIELD, IL -- The Grandstand saw an extended day of record-setting harness racing action on Thursday, as thirty-one races were held to make up for Wednesday’s rained-out schedule.

Jockey Andy Miller broke the record for most wins during a single Illinois State Fair. He broke Dave Magee’s record with thirteen wins this week. Trainer Ervin Miller also set a record, for most training wins, with fifteen.

Heavy rains Wednesday morning forced all 15 races to be postponed. Consequently, Thursday’s track time was moved up to 10:00 a.m. to accommodate a slate of 31 races. Harness racing continued until approximately 6:30 p.m. before making way for Tractor Pulls in the Grandstand.

Elsewhere on the Fairgrounds, rallies and speeches by Illinois Democratic candidates highlighted Democrat Day. U.S. Senator Dick Durbin led the party festivities.
