ANNUAL TWILIGHT PARADE KICKS OFF 2001 ILLINOIS STATE FAIR
SPRINGFIELD, IL -- Marching bands, decorative floats, clowns, local organizations and horses kicked off the 2001 Illinois State Fair with the Twilight Parade.
Leading the parade were Governor George H. Ryan and First Lady Lura Lynn Ryan, accompanied by their family and the 2001 Twilight Parade Grand Marshall, Norma "Duffy" Lyon, the "Butter Cow Lady". Also in the parade was State Fair Manager Bud Ford, accompanied by George "Goober" Lindsey of Andy Griffith Show fame.
Judges from around the state gave awards for the best floats and marching bands. Both commercial and non-commercial floats were eligible for numerous awards. Marching bands were judged in the categories of percussion, color guard, drum majors and best overall. The 2001 Twilight Parade Results are as follows:
