THEME CHOSEN FOR 2001 ILLINOIS STATE FAIR; EAST CENTRAL ILLINOIS
WOMAN SUBMITS WINNING ENTRY

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - "Harvesting America's Greatness" has been selected as the theme of the 2001 Illinois State Fair.

The theme, chosen by Illinois State Fair staff from among 554 entries, was submitted by Virginia Hatcher of Paris, Ill.

" This was a clever entry and will serve as a great theme for the 2001 Illinois State Fair. It's short, easy to remember,

and captures the essence of the fair perfectly," State Fair Manager Bud Ford said. "First and foremost, the fair is a

celebration of our agricultural heritage and a showcase for the state's finest talent. Both are reflected in this theme."

For submitting the winning entry, Hatcher will receive prizes including free parking and admission to the 2001 fair, two

tickets to a Grandstand concert and a 2001 Illinois State Fair cap, shirt, coffee mug and commemorative pin.

"If participation in this contest is an indication of interest in the fair, we're in for an exciting time this summer," Ford said.

"The number of entries was more than double last year's 230, and I thank everyone who took the time and effort to

enter. We received a lot of creative suggestions."

The theme will be used this year for both the Twilight Parade that opens the fair and the fair itself. In years past, separate

themes were chosen. The 2001 Illinois State Fair will be held Aug. 10 - 19. The Twilight Parade is scheduled Aug. 9.
