General Information

Admission Information

The Illinois State Fairgrounds is open from 7 a.m. to Midnight for the duration of the Fair. The Fair Administration Office is open from 8 am to 6 pm.

(Veterans with identification and their families) — FREE
All Veterans and their families can purchase a Bargain Bracelet (good for all the rides, excluding the big slide and sky ride) for $30.00. Proper Veteran identification is required.
August 17 – Senior Citizens Day/Scout Day
Seniors (60 and older) — FREE
August 23 – Family Day

The Illinois State Fair provides a variety of services to help you enjoy your visit. Find information and maps regarding;


Most restrooms and buildings on the fairgrounds are accessible. See the map for marked accessible restrooms and buildings. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, any attendee requiring reasonable accommodation should notify us of their needs when ordering Grandstand tickets. An accessible tram unit is available on the grounds. Motorized wheelchairs are available for rent at the Senior Center inside the Illinois Building. Signers/interpreters are available for information.

Administrative Offices

The administration offices are located in the Emmerson Building on Main Street, diagonally across from the Exposition Building. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the Fair.Phone: 217/782-6661 MAP

Baby Care Facilities

A private area for nursing and diaper-changing is available in the South Wing of the Emmerson Building, in the Kids Korner. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Free entertainment is also provided. MAP

Bus and Taxi Services

SMTD buses operate daily throughout the Fair with a special shuttle schedule to accommodate fairgoers. Fairgoers can catch the bus at the Main Gate on Sangamon Avenue, on 8th street outside gate 11 and one block south of gate 2 on Joles and Peoria Road. For bus schedule information, please call 217/522-5531, TDD 217/522-8594. Taxi service will also be available outside the Main Gate. MAP

First Aid

Volunteers from the Illinois Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross operate a First Aid Station in the Emmerson Building Annex. The State Fair First Aid Station volunteers are competent personnel who are trained to respond to victims of injury or sudden illness before the arrival of EMS personnel. The State Fair Red Cross First Aid Station is designed to provide free, immediate, and temporary care for injuries and sudden illnesses The First Aid Station hours are from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Information Booths

Information Booths have been conveniently placed throughout the fairgrounds. Fairgoers can inquire at five locations: near the entrance of the Main Gate, on Main Street at the four-way stop, across from the north end of the Grandstand and at the three-way stop near the Livestock Center, and at the south end of the Pedestrian Tunnel. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. MAP

Lost and Found Children Center

The Lost and Found Children’s Center is located south of the Grandstand on Grandstand Avenue. The Illinois State Police broadcasts emergency announcements from their booth on Illinois Avenue and from their headquarters on Grandstand Avenue. The center is open daily during regular Fair hours. MAP


The Police Station is located south of the Grandstand on Grandstand Avenue and is open during regular Fair hours. MAP

Post Office

The U.S. Postal Service is located in the Exposition Building and offers all regular mailing services. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed from 12:00 to 1:00 pm for lunch, during the Fair. MAP


Restrooms and porta potties are located throughout the fairgrounds. MAP


Trams operate full tours of the fairgrounds from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
daily. Two single-unit handicapped accessible tram units
are also available. Fairgoers may board at any of the following 15 loading areas:

  • Lincoln Stage
  • Between Bldg. 105 (Antique Tractors) & Fire Station
  • Race Horse Barn Area – north of Carnival Midway
  • Race Horse Barn Area – Racing Office
  • Bus Parking Area (Gate 6)
  • Goat Barn – northwest of the Grandstand – Southbound only
  • Conservation World
  • 4H Lane and 8th Street Road
  • The Arena and 8th Street Road
  • Campgrounds
  • Happy Hollow / Watershed Park
  • Goat Barn – northwest of the Grandstand – Northbound only
  • Sound end of SkyGlide – near south entrance to FLH
  • Middle of infield near restroom
  • South end of infield – near pedestrian tunnel

Sky Glide

The Sky Ride runs from the south end of the Grandstand to the corner of Gate #2. It offers an excellent aerial view of the fairgrounds. The Sky Ride operates from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. MAP

Strollers, Scooters, and Wheelchair Services

Strollers, double strollers, wheelchairs and electric scooters will be available to rent daily 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Grandstand Avenue near the Goat Barn and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Illinois Building. Items can be returned to the Illinois Building until 10 p.m. MAP

Hotels & Motels

Springfield is home to over 30 hotels, several b&b's, and numerous campgrounds. No matter what your budget or luxury criteria, there's something for everyone


The campground operates April 1 through October 31. There are 300 sites available that can accommodate motor homes, RV's, fifth wheels, and tents with electric and water and limited sewer hook-ups. Shower facilities and restrooms are also available. Security monitors the Illinois State Fairgrounds twenty-four hours a day.
