COUNTRY STAR JAKE OWEN AND ROCK SUPERGROUP BOSTON TO PERFORM AT 2014 ILLINOIS STATE FAIR
The Illinois State Fair has filled two open dates in its 2014 Grandstand entertainment line-up, announcing the booking today of country singer Jake Owen and classic rock band Boston.

COUNTRY MUSIC'S REIGNING "VOCAL DUO OF THE YEAR" TO PLAY 2014 ILLINOIS STATE FAIR
Florida Georgia Line to perform Sunday, Aug. 10

The vocal duo has rocketed to stardom since the release of its debut studio album, "Here's to the Good Times," slightly more than a year ago.  The first four singles from the platinum-selling effort shot to number one on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, including "Cruise," the best-selling digital country song of all-time and the Country Music Association's (CMA) 2013 "Single of the Year."

SUMMER ROBBINS CROWNED 2014 MISS ILLINOIS COUNTY FAIR QUEEN
Summer Robbins of Coffeen, Miss Montgomery County, was crowned the 2014 Miss Illinois County Fair Queen January 19 in Springfield by retiring 2013 Queen Amelia Martens.

GOVERNOR QUINN ANNOUNCES ILLINOIS STATE FAIR ATTENDANCE SOARS TO HIGHEST LEVEL SINCE 2002
Several New Records Set for Grandstand Entertainment, Livestock Auction, and Horse Racing

A total of 961,142 fairgoers passed through the gates this year, an increase of five percent - or 42,707 visitors - compared to a year ago, when attendance was 918,435. The figure is the fair's highest attendance since 2002, when an estimated 1.2 million people visited the fair.

 

GOVERNOR'S SALE OF CHAMPIONS SMASHES SEVEN RECORDS
Event raises staggering $222,650 for junior producers and state's 4-H and FFA youth education programs

The grand champion steer, exhibited by Nelson England of Oneida, fetched the highest price. It sold for $62,000, or $10,000 more than the previous record. The largest increases, however, were recorded by the Land of Lincoln wether and Land of Lincoln barrow. Hanna Runner’s wether sold for $19,100, more than twice as much as the former record of $9,500, and Lane Rinderer’s barrow sold for $40,650, obliterating the previous high purchase price for the animal of $11,000.
