 IDOA SCHEDULES CLEAN SWEEP COLLECTION IN NORTHERN ILLINOIS
Program will safely dispose of unwanted agricultural pesticides Residents of Boone, DeKalb, Kane, Lake, Lee, McHenry, Ogle and Winnebago counties can dispose of unwanted agrichemicals for free this year through the Illinois Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Pesticide Clean Sweep program. ILLINOIS PRODUCTS FARMERS' MARKET ANNOUNCES SPONSORSHIP AS FIFTH SEASON OPENS ON THE STATE FAIRGROUNDS When the Illinois Products Farmers' Market (IPFM) opens this week on the Illinois State Fairgrounds, for the first time the popular, evening market will have a title sponsor. PREMIUM BOOKS FOR THE 2012 ILLINOIS STATE FAIR ARE NOW AVAILABLE These books can be download or viewed on-line. Forms should be saved, filled-in on-line, printed and mailed to their specified destinations. PUBLIC MEETINGS SCHEDULED TO DISCUSS 2012 GYPSY MOTH PROGRAM The Illinois Department of Agriculture will hold four public information meetings to explain its plans this year to treat parts of northern Illinois for the destructive gypsy moth. The meetings, which begin at 7 p.m., are scheduled April 11 in Oswego, April 12 in Rockford, May 9 in Tinley Park and May 16 in Lansing.
THOUSAND CANKERS DISEASE AND THE WALNUT TWIG BEETLE In response to the Thousand Cankers Disease (TCD) threat, on February 1, 2012, the Governor of the State of Illinois issued a proclamation which established a regulatory framework to protect the walnut resource of the state. The proclamation restricts the movement of certain regulated articles into or through Illinois and establishes a process by which individuals and businesses can continue to move those articles without endangering the state's walnut resource. Box 19281, Springfield, IL 62794-9281 PROMOTE YOUR AGRIBUSINESS COMPANY In an ongoing effort to promote the Illinois food and agribusiness industry within the global marketplace, The Illinois Department of Agriculture (DOA)'s Bureau of Marketing has launched various promotional services through several regional and national expositions, promotions, seminars, and industry tours. In addition, the DOA maintains foreign offices in Hong Kong and Mexico to assist Illinois companies overseas. Illinois is also a member of the twelve-state Food Export Association-Midwest. By utilizing this private, non-profit association, DOA is positioned to increase international exports in addition to the state-sponsored Food Export activities. For interested agribusiness owners, the full list of details may be found at www.agr.state.il.us/marketing/ ILLINOIS EMERALD ASH BORER QUARANTINE EXPANDED Quarantine now includes nearly 40 percent of the state The Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) has added all of 14 counties and part of two others to its emerald ash borer (EAB) quarantine. NEW ANHYDROUS AMMONIA SAFETY VIDEO AVAILABLE Because of the potentially hazardous nature of anhydrous ammonia, the Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association (IFCA) and Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) have produced a 12-minute video outlining the proper safety procedures that famers should take each and every time they handle the product. watch the Video
NURSERY PROGRAM NOW ON-LINE The nursery program inspection staff of the Illinois Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Environmental Programs inspects and certifies nearly 1,200 nurseries in Illinois each year.
